I'm sorry it's been such a long time since I posted any ultra updates. It's not that I haven't been running; to the contrary, I was running a lot, but life was also still happening. The 2015 Vista View 360 race was my first ultra experience, and as you already know, I loved it!
After that race, Morgan & I went out to Moab (UT) and ran the 50k that was part of the 24 Hours of Utah race. That was March. Then, in April, Hans, Morgan, and I ran the Down to Run (DTR) Spring Endurance Challenge 50k in Jupiter. Race reports of those can be found here:https://www.facebook.com/OceansidePhysicalTherapyInc/photos/pcb.881594218566700/881592418566880/?type=3 and http://community.runnersworld.com/topic/down-to-run-endurance-challenge-50k-race-report-1. After that, it was the Keys100 relay in May and then training for the Marine Corps Marathon in October. My next true ultra wouldn't be until December, and it would be my first attempt at a 50 mile race! Because Hans was moving to TX, the three of us found a race in Brazos Bend State Park (which is about an hour outside of Houston).
Brazos Bend was fun, but I was dealing with an injury that happened in early October, so my training was anything but what I wanted or needed it to be. Despite that, it worked out well & I was able to finish the race is a very respectable 9 hours and 10 minutes. A full race report can be found here: http://community.runnersworld.com/topic/brazos-bend-tx-50-mile-race-report.
After Brazos Bend, I snuck in a half marathon on 1/2/16 (with a new PR of 1:39:19), a 6 hour race (Vista View again where I was able to improve my mileage & end up as the 2nd place female finisher), paced almost 30 miles at the Long Haul 100 race, and continued running locally (including working with Patty who was part of Fleet Feet's half marathon training program). See - I was staying busy!
Even before I had finished that first 50 mile race, I had signed up for the Everglades Ultra that was on February 20th. Why? Instead of asking that, perhaps you should be asking why not?!
I promise a full race report on that soon, but here's the scoop. It was challenging; there were super muddy sections that forced me to walk, but the weather was delightfully nice! My time was not as good as Brazos Bend, but it still was good enough for me to be the 2nd place female finisher! I'll take that any day of the week!
